TPS543C20: 2Phase protection response

Part Number: TPS543C20

Hi,

During 2Phase operation, if the protection operation works only on the slave side to stop the switching operation, will it also stop the master side?
Also, after clearing the slave fault, will it automatically reboot?

Similarly, please tell me what happens when the protection operation works only on the master side.

"protection operation" is taken into account of thermal shutdown and OCP.
If a malfunction occurs inside the device (FET or control circuit etc.) with either Master or Slave, can it stop the other switching?

Best regards,
Yuto Sakai

  • Sakai-san,

I do not understand your question. Can you tell me what section of the datasheet you are referring to?
  • Hi John-san,

    Thank you for your reply.
I am looking at data sheet 8.4.18.
When the lost sync fault occurs, it seems to make ISHARE low to shut down all phases.
What will the master or slave happen when the other performs protection operation?
Also, what will happen when the inside of the device fails like the master or slave wrote in the first post?

    Best regards,
    Yuto Sakai

  • Hi John-san,

    I’m sorry for pushing you.
Would you give me your view?

  • Hi John-san,

I will organize the question items.

    ■About overtemperature protection
When detecting with either the master or the slave, will the other side also perform protection operation?
Also, do they restart after the abnormal condition(overtemperrature) is released?

    ■About overcurrent protection
When detecting with either the master or the slave, will the other side also perform protection operation?
Also, do they restart after the abnormal condition(overcurrent) is released?

■About failure in the internal circuit
If internal circuit failure occurs in either master or slave, does it notify and stop the other switching?

    Best regards,
    Yuto Sakai
  • Sakai-san,

Those questions have the same answer:

Master monitors OV/UV of main output and OC/OT of master IC. Slave monitors OC/OT of slave IC. If slave device has OC/OT, the ISHARE pin will pull down and to trigger the master device so both devices will go into hiccup mode. If the master device has protection feature kick-in, the ISHARE pin will pull down and to trigger the slave device so both devices will go into hiccup mode.
