BQ24161EVM-721: BQ24161EVM test issue

Part Number: BQ24161EVM-721

Hi Team,

Below statement are my customer test issue about BQ24161EVM.

Please help to support if we have any solution.

IC Hardware Chip Disable Input – Drive CD high to place the bq2416xx in high-z mode. Drive

CD low for normal operation. Do not leave CD unconnected.

  • Bo,

    Can you translate to English?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

    FYI.
Please let me know if you need any information.

1: I set up the charge current at 1A, but the system only show around 400mA.

2 : I used TS internal INT, the function is OK, but when I switch out to external TS, I got the error value, what happen for it? TS pin resistor is 10K.

3 : User guide mentioned JP5 (CD PIN) need to pull high then pull low, is it necessary?
datasheet mentioned pull low is OK, but when I studied EVM user guide, why we need to pull high then pull low?
    we need to confirm it.

    Thanks a lot.
  • Hi Bo,

Regarding 1, is the voltage at the IC BAT pin close to termination voltage = 4.2V? High resistance connection from BAT pin to battery or battery simulator can cause the IC to enter CV mode earlier than expected.

Regarding 2, JP1 set to EXT removes the onboard potentiometer = 10kohm from the TS pin. The expectation is that an external 10kohm thermistor or resistor will be attached.

Regarding 3, CD pin is chip disable. Toggling CD initiates a reset of the state machine. It is recommended to do this after a battery is removed and also after a battery in reattached.
