BQ25101: Charging Lipo batteries at rates less than C/10

Part Number: BQ25101

Hi:  I have a question about using the bq25101 in a new design.

I'm confused a bit about the 10 hour safety timer.

In my application, I want to charge a 400 mAH LiPo battery, with, for example 10 mA of charging current, that is , less than C/10.

At this rate, it will take more than 10 hours to charge.

Will the safety timer stop the charging, before it is completed (that is,before  Vbattery = 4.2 V) ?

Please advise, my email is doug@accutroninstruments.com ....I'll greatly appreciate any input !

  • Hello
Yes the 10 hr safety timer will trip and stop charge.
The timer can be disabled by pull the TS pin high or floating. But this will also disable the termination. Device is in TTDM mode similar to an LDO mode with voltage applied to the battery continuously.
This is not a typical charging profile, recommend contacting the battery manufacture to confirm this is acceptable.

    Will contact you off line.
