BQ25710: NiMH Battery

Part Number: BQ25710

Dear TI E2E Member,

Does BQ25710 can support NiMH battery?

Our application is  5V input, charge NiMH Battery (3 in series), 4.5V.

Thanks!

  • Hi Julian,

Yes, the bq25710 can charge NiMH batteries and will work in your application.

  • Hey Julian,

To add to Angelo's comment, while the voltage regulation on the BQ25710 can support the voltage on the NiMH battery you are using, be aware that the complex termination algorithm that NiMH requires is not supported by this charger.

Typically for NiMH, the termination of charge is based on temperature differential or negative delta voltage, down to very low resolution (between 5 and 10mV per cell). Termination of charge via these methods will need to be implemented through your host/external system.
