TPS61170: A 10 μH to 22 μH inductance value range is recommended."

Part Number: TPS61170

Hi all

Would you mind if we ask TPS61170?

"Inductors with smaller inductance values can give better load transient response. For these reasons, a 10 μH to 22 μH inductance value range is recommended."
->Is it possible to use 47uH? If we use 47uH, will the load transient response decrease?
About phase margin, will it improve because of Fc=1/(2π√LC)?
   Or, is there any problem?

Kind regards,

Hirotaka Matsumoto

  • Hi Matsumoto-San,

When choose 47uH inductor , the right half plane zero will move to a lower frequency.  Therefore, to make the circuit have enough phase margin, the cross over frequency has to be set at a lower frequency. which results in poor dynamic/or transient response.

Since  Fc=1/(2π√LC) can be compensated by the zero of the compensation network. So this doesn't matter to the transient.
