bq30z55: unable to leave bootROM-mode after SENC programming

 Hi support team!

Recently me received small test parcel of new bq30z55 from ebay supplier. All gauges were not preprogrammed, i.e after power up only bootROM interface accesible (0x0d reports 0502).

So me have reflashed someof them with default firmware 'bq30z55_v0.35_ChemID100.senc' and then have sent 'bootROM exit command' 0x08, but control was not transferred to firmware-mode neither by this command nor by power-on reset. To verify that programming was Ok me dumped written image and checked byte-wise with default, it was Ok.

Q1.  So would you please advice me what conditions could prevent transferring control from bootloader to firmware running?

Q2. Is it enough to flash ROM and EEPROM segments on the very first programming stage ( I know newer chips require programming 'calibration segment' at 0x14000 as well)?

Q3. Is it strict requirements to pin voltage levels to exit from bootROM-mode (gauge installed on custom PCB so I suppose some pins not connected as described in standard application)?

    Hi Igor,

    There is a 99.9% chance that the device you purchased is a custom IC (or maybe not even a TI part).  If that is the case, due to confidentiality reasons, we cannot share any information about bq30z55. If you want to confirm, please share a picture of the IC (IC marking).

    If you want to keep the same factor as bq30z55, I suggest you use the catalog bq30z554-R1.

    if you have some flexibility and can choose the latest device we have (latest generation), I suggest you use bq40z50-R2.

    Hi David!

    Below is attached picture of IC been purchased. Could you please confirm whether this genuine part or counterfate product?

    The original bq30z55 gas gauge is suported by geniune bqEVSW/EV2300 toolkit, also documentation for this IC is publicly available (sluu852a, bq30z55 TRM) so me wondered when you say this is custom and confidential IC.

    hi Igor,
    This looks like a genuine TI part.
    I managed to find the SLUU852A after a Google search (will have to remove them) but not when searching on ti.com
    if you cannot buy / find part on ti.com, then it is a custom part.

    TRM for bq30z55 is available at ti.com, at the www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluu852/sluu852.pdf.
    After PCB examination it was found 'cold joints' at some pins and after resoldering device have started running firmware.
    So this thread is closed.
