TPS659037: VBUS detection

Part Number: TPS659037
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM5728

Hi team,

My customer is using TPS659037 for AM5728 power management, but they have a question about the D8 PIN (VBUS Detection Voltage).

In the AM572x Industrial Development Kit (IDK) Schematic design, there are two USB port with two USB 5V, but only one is connected the D8 PIN of TPS659037.

And they using 4 USB port in their own board, so should just connect only one USB 5V to the D8 PIN?

Please help to answer this, thanks.

  • Hi,

The answer to this question will depend on your design.

If you connect one rail to VBUS, only that one rail will be monitored using VBUS. You can tie all 4 of the USB rails together (using a diode on each rail), and that will allow the VBUS to monitor if any of the USB rails are high. If you need to know which USB rail goes high, you may need a more complex solution, such as a multiplexer.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,
    Nastasha
