TPS65130: TPS65133 or TPS65130 for Operational Amplifier Supplies

Part Number: TPS65130
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65133,

Hi,

I am working on a HiFi audio project and considering Ti's TPS65130 or TPS65133 for Operational Amplifier Supplies. according to the datasheet, the TPS65133 seems to be more suitable but output votlage is fixed at +/- 5Vdc only.  while the TPS65130 can provide higher output voltage but I am worried about its ripple & noise. so appreciate if you can let me know if the TPS65130 is suitbale for Operational Amplifier Supplies as well. if using an ultra-low-noise LDO to connect to the output of TPS65130, is it helpful to reduce ripple & noise ?

Thanks.

Felix

  • Hi Felix,

My suggestion is to find out first the max acceptable noise at operational amplifier inputs and based on worst PSRR number calculate max allowable supply ripple. In real life board layout will add noise, you'll need same margin for additional board noise. Based on this you can find out what DC/DC to use if an LDO is needed. LDO will reduce supply noise but overall efficiency will be worst. Layout is important, LDO will reduce the noise if the board traces are no coupling noise to the operation amplifier supplies pins.
