UCC29002: UCC29002 usage without shunt monitor

Part Number: UCC29002
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC39002

Hello,

Customer is investigating UCC29002. Due to low output voltage, they don't prefer voltage drop on shunt resister. Do you know any way to use UCC29002 without shunt resister? E.g. general DCDC controller can support current monitor/feedback on inductor, DCR sensing.

Thanks,
Koji Ikeda

  • Hello Koji Ikeda,
The UCC39002 needs to be able to sense the load current supplied from each of the shared power modules.
The only method of sensing a DC current that I know of is with a sense resistor. It is also possible to use a Hall effect sensor to sense a DC current but we do not have any reference designs that use this method.
The methods of current sensing that you mention above are all equivalent to using a sense resistor.
