BQ28Z610: Connection

Part Number: BQ28Z610

Hi

We have 2s5p, 2s3p & 2s2p configurations of the batteries and each cell of pack has 3.7V, 2600mAh

Our system has Adapter Input to the ISL9238A, from ISL9238A we are generating System Out (Which is connected to system Supply)  and Battery Out (Which is connected to the Battery to charge and if the adapter is not avaiable Battery will discharge through System Out.

Now we also wanted to monitor the battery status, temperature using bq28z610. But We are confused about how we should connect them to the bq28z610 & ISL9238A as well as what should we connect to the Pack+ & Pack -?

Thanks

  • Your thread has been assigned to me. I will reply back within the day.
  • In your cell stack each parallel block of cells is considered by the gauge to be one cell. So, the configuration is effectively only a 2s config immaterial of how many parallel cells you have connected. Connect the Cell1- terminal of the bottom cell to GND. Connect the Cell1+ and Cell2- terminals together and connect the tab from them to VC1. Then connect Cell2+ to VC2. Finally connect Cell2+ through the fuse and FETs to Pack per the DS. Then connect GND to SRP, connect the sense resistor between SRP and SRN and connect SRN to Pack-. Then you can take the Pack+ and connect it across the CHG FET source terminal.
  • Hi Batt

Thanks for the reply, can you also let us know what we should connect to PACK + & PACK- as you can see we are also using ISL9238A where we connect the adapter and its output will be connected to the System and the Battery.

    Thanks

  • From the ISL schematic it looks like Pack+ goes to BAT and Pack- to GND. You may want to check with them. The connections to the bq28z610 are as specified.
  • Hi Batt

So battery pack will be connected to both places ISL as well as bq ic correct? And the 2p 1p and 1n will be connected to the series of cells, correct

Can you send you email address so we can share schematic for your review and comment.

    Thanks

  • I can review the gauge for you, but, for the charger, it appears to me that the connection is across the gauge (other end of the battery). To confirm you need to speak with the charger mfg. If you want me to send me the schematic, send it by PM to me.
