LP8860-Q1: If LP8860R version with charger pump enabled application with VDD=5V is OK?

Hi, Team:

My customer Visteon is using LP8860R version which EEPROM has enabled the charge pump.

But in the application, the VDD power supply is 5V, can you help to check if this application is OK for LP8860?4214.LP8860.pdf

Hi Alpha,

When VDD is 5V, the charge pump is not typically needed because 5V is usually high enough for most MOSFETs gate driver.
But it is ok if they still enable the charge pump. In that case, the gate drive voltage is 10V. It is acceptable for most MOSFETs. Customer can check the maximum gate-source of the MOSFET they are using.

If it's OK when customer keep using R version but connect the VDD=5V to CPUMP output directly and remove cap between C1P and C1N?

Hi Alpha,

In that case, the gate driver voltage comes from the CPUMP voltage, which equals to VDD. So it is ok if they just connect CPUMP to VDD while using R version.
