TPS61256: Operation in the case of VIN>VOUT(5v)

Part Number: TPS61256

Hello,

Is there any problem(Damage or anything) to IC in case IC is put in the conditions like that(VIN>VOUT(5v)) in actual application?

Best regards,

Hidekazu Someno

  • Hi team,
Please let me supplement about my questions

In the case of TPS 61256, Vout setting is 5 V.
If VIN increases over VOUT(5V) and stays in the range of 5V-5.5v, It should have 0% duty operation(100% on for PMOS) and the state of Vin ≒ Vout (Vin - load current x FET Ron exactly).
Is there any risk that leads to any damage by putting this product in this state(5V < VIN <5.5V)?

    Best regards,
    Hidekazu Someno
  • Hi Hidekazu-San,

Yes, when Vin>Vo, Vo will follow Vin, Vo=Vin-I*FET Ron.   It is OK for this usage, will not cause any damage.
