BQ24195: IC gets hot in boost mode

Hi,

When our battery is nearly depleted and boost mode current is 2A, the BQ24195 case gets hot (50C rise). Is there any way to limit current during boost mode? Charge current limit setting doesn't seems to affect boost mode current limit. Would thermal regulation work in boost mode to regulate current at high temperature?

Hey Jeremy,

You cannot limit the current in boost mode with the BQ24195. Also, once the current limit is hit, the output collapses.

Charge current doesn't affect this current limit. And thermal regulation does not function in boost mode. It only functions to reducing charging current in buck mode. However, the charger still protects with thermal shutdown if the IC extremely hot.
