LM5140-Q1: Still have OCP if we disable hiccup mode current limit?

Part Number: LM5140-Q1

Hi expert,

My customer has a question on LM5140-Q1 OCP feature. They want to know if we still have OCP for LM5140-Q1 after we disable hiccup mode current limit. If yes, is that always cycle by cycle current limit? But we didn't have UVP protection to latch off converter operation, is that okay for power stage? Thanks a lot!!

Best regards,

Ann Lien

  • You are correct. LM5140-Q1 will have cycle-by-cycle current limit. When cycle-by-cycle current limit is hit 256 consecutive times (with no more than 3 non-trips in a row) the IC will discharge SS and enter hiccup for the specified hiccup time. If the specified hiccup time is zero (disabled) then the IC will immediately start up with soft start. It will continue counting cycle-by-cycle current limit trips again.
