BQ20Z65-R1: & BQZ20Z45-R1: bqEVSW crashing and failing to detect chips

Part Number: BQ20Z65-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQEVSW, BQ20Z45-R1, , EV2400, BQSTUDIO

Hi, I'm attempting to run some auto-cycling tests on two battery packs. One uses a BQ20Z45-R1 and the other uses a BQ20Z65-R1. Unfortunately, the software for one chip doesn't include support for the other and vice versa. After numerous attempts to uninstall and reinstall different versions of bqEVSW, I'm now getting an "install error: file missing" pop up followed by a "Run-time error '9': Subscript out of range" pop up. The strange thing is, this occurs after the program was successfully running following the installation. My current method to getting the software up and running is to run the install script for the appropriate chip and not close the application. Attempting to run the software from the desktop shortcut of the program file in '/Program Files (x86)/Texas Instruments/bq Evaluation Software' results in the above error and crashes. Another thing of note, the program doesn't automatically choose what chip is being used.

I'm using an EV2300 to connect to the batteries, and I'm running Windows 10. I tried using an EV2400, but bqEVSW fails to recognize even after installing the support components.

My question is, is there a stable version of bqEVSW that supports both the BQ20Z45-R1 and BQ20Z65-R1? Or is there a way to get Battery Management Studio to work with these chips?

  • Hi,
Since these are really old devices, there is no plan to support them in bqStudio.
The bqEVSW are in the product tools and software for each of these devices: www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware and www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware
With Windows 10, it will be better to use EV2400 since it does not require any external driver installations and should work with bqEVSW.
If you install the bqEVSW in your "Program Files(x86)" folder, you may have to run it in administrator mode.
If you are still having issues, please post the screenshots, and we can check to see what is going on.
    Regards,
    Swami
