BQ76940: BSM common ground issues

Part Number: BQ76940
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350

Hi,

I would like to upgrade my BSM with handle external potential meter as input and do data massage (figure 2,) rather than the external potential on Controller / loading side (figure 3.), however with both control signal connected together mean both GROUND has to be connected together (figure 1.) imagine when PACK- and PACK+ connect to LOADING spike appear because LOADING ground is equal BSM ground, my existing design is both CHG and DSG is connected by MCU so that without MCU command the path was disconnected to prevent spike or inrush current, also now measuring discharge current look strange.

Can anyone help to review my design ? do I need to isolate both GROUNDs ? any TI ic solution help ?

  • Hello Tiger,

the bq76940 should help you monitor any battery pack up to 15S, and it communicates with an MCU or our bq78350 gauge. It provides a digital output fo the cells and the current and temperature. Therefore, the need for an opamp i am not sure but you would know the needs for your design better than we would. Other than this I can't seem to find any questions specifically to the bq76940 so if you need anything regarding this part please let us know.

    Thanks
