WEBENCH® Tools/TPS62150A: inductor and model

Part Number: TPS62150A

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello team,

my customer wants to use the TPS62150A due to the good efficiency with light loads and at 1.25MHz. On Webench they ran a simulation and the inductor chosen of 2.2uH is screened and very expensive. Thus my question, how does webench decide which screening/protection to chose for the inductor?

Also, from the datasheet of the TPS62150A I ee that when the device is used with light load it enters power save mode and it stays in DCM; the simulations on webench take into consideration the power save mode? Is it activated when I chose a small current output?

Thanks and best regards,

Adrian

  • Hi Adrian,

The value of the inductor is fixed to 2.2uH on WEBENCH as per datasheet. Please choose the desired inductor using 'Alternate part selection' option as shown below. Also, you can change the optimizer position to 2 so that low-cost inductor will be selected.

1.Click on the inductor and then click on 'Select Alternate component'

    2. Please click on the price. Then select the desired inductor as shown below.

Also, WEBENCH considers the power saving mode operation for light load conditions. The switching frequency of the device reduces with load current. You can check the average switching frequency in the performance summary once the simulation is completed.

    Thanks & Regards,
