LM5026: pls help on LM5026 inductor selection

Part Number: LM5026

Hi

I am designing a LM5026 bases DC-DC converter, I have downloaded all public resources, but no inductor selection table was found, could someone give some hints or better inductor selection guide? Thanks.

  • Hi

The value of the output inductance is driven mostly by the level of ripple current in the output that your design can accommodate. For example a design with 15% ripple current for a 10A max load current would have 1.5A of ripple current. The ripple current needs to be filtered by the output capacitance which has some ESR. The ripple current will create a voltage drop across the ESR which will result in the output ripple voltage.

It really is a balancing act between the output inductance value and the value and type of output capacitance used in the design to meet the output ripple voltage spec.

There is a design calculator for another TI active clamp controller which contains a calculation for the output inductor which may be useful.
