BQ76930: High power design (9s10p)

Part Number: BQ76930

Hi,

I noticed that at the end of the datasheet in section 8.2.1 Design Requirement (page 49), the max discharge current is  set to 10A.

I was wondering whether it is possible to use this chip for higher power applications such as a 9s10p battery with peak discharge of ~100A? if not, does TI offer any other solution for this case?

thank you

  • Hi Abtin,
Section 8.2.1 of the bq76930 data sheet is a design example, it is not the capability of the part. The part can support currents up to the voltages shown for the current sense pins. As system designer you must meet your current needs while controlling the power in the sense resistor and maintaining sufficient resolution for current measurement. Usually there is a tradeoff to be made in the design.
Also with high current designs be sure to control the system inductances to avoid breaking electronics. In some cases filter or clamp circuits will be needed to keep parts in their operating range.
