BQ76930: drive current ability

Part Number: BQ76930

Hi,

When looking through BQ76930, what is the drive current ability? On the datasheet, it said CHG and DSG pin drive the MOS, but no parameters provided on drive current ability, which usually seen in MOS driver IC datasheet

Best Regards,

Gene

  • Hi Gene,
The bq76930 FET drive outputs have a 5k nominal ON resistance, the data sheet author expects us to calculate this from the switching speed. With that resistance the output current is limited to approximately 12V/5k = 2.4 mA. The outputs are not intended to drive the FETs hard and fast like a switching regulator type application where a standalone FET driver might be used. A battery application is more of a load switch type operation. If your battery needs a higher drive current a FET driver can be used, adjust the drive resistance to avoid exciting the cell inductance.
