TPS3702: TPS3702

Part Number: TPS3702
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3700, TPS3701

Dear Sir,

Customer would like consider TPS3702 and pls help to check it,

-do you need to detect a DC voltage fall, or do you need also to detect AC events that fall outside the +-5% tolerance window?

[customer] It should be able to detect both DC and AC events that fall outside the tolerance window.

-Do you define this a fault because the 5% is the voltage tolerance of the load?

[customer] Yes.  just found I miss to attach the picture. Please see below, the monitor detection range should not overlap the normal power IC operational output range, but also has to within the load voltage range.

For example, assume a DDR power rail may requires +/- 5% tolerance and a Power IC set to center with output +/- 2.5% tolerance. This leaves the monitor with maximum tolerance +/-1.25%. This is how I get the target tolerance for the monitor IC.

-has your application heavy load transients?

[customer] Yes, heavy load transients may happen. They are for core power such as CPU and DDR.

I would like to learn more about the voltage monitor. I might need to monitor 3~4 voltage rails with typical voltage(1.2V, 1.35V, 1.8V, 3,3V). I found TPS3702 is a good choice that no need to add external resistance. However it doesn’t support 1.35V rail monitoring and adding 3~5 monitor

Thanks, Ian.

  • Hi Ian,

TPS3702 can monitor both undervoltage and overvoltage but the TPS3702 has fixed 2%, 3%, 4%, or 5% nominal threshold detection and the nominal supplies it monitors is fixed and provided by Table 4.

If you want a programmable threshold, you can select TPS3700 which allow you to monitor any voltage above 0.4V and set the threshold for both undervoltage and overvoltage with external resistors.

If you want to monitor multiple channels for both under and over voltage, you will need to use multiple TPS3700/TPS3702 devices. You can also use TPS3701 which has VDD up to 36V compared to TPS3700 that has VDD up to 18V.

    My recommendation is to use:

TPS3702CX12 for the 1.2V rail. Set the tolerance to 5%

TPS3700 for 1.35V. Use resistors to set the tolerance to 5%.

TPS3702CX18 for the 1.8V rail. Set the tolerance to 5%

TPS3702CX33 for the 3.3V rail. Set the tolerance to 5%

Please let me know if you need further support. Thanks!

    -Michael

  • Hi Ian,

We also have some devices in development that has window monitoring plus reset time delay. Please let me know if the application requires reset time delay or reset output latch and if the application is size constrained.

Please also let us know what the end equipment category is ?

    Best Regards,
