TPS23750: Layout Questions

Part Number: TPS23750

Team,

Could you please explain more about the layout guide from the datasheet "Spacing consistent with safety standards like IEC60950 must be observed between the 48-V input voltage rails and between the input and an isolated converter output" ? What is the spacing requirement exactly?

Thanks.

Allan

  • Hi Allan,

This is referring to maintaining isolation (physical spacing ) between the primary and secondary. As a rule of thumb, I like to do 20V/mil. Other engineers have their own 'rules' and it'll depend on the safety engineer to make that call. So for my example, for a isolated supply that is designed for 1000-2000V isolation, a 50-100 mil spacing can be used. So for some of EVMs you'll see 50-100 mil spacing between the primary and secondary components (usually visually distinguishable by looking at the primary and secondary the ground planes).

    Regards,
    Darwin
