This is my configuration:

Board: BQ76940EVM

Batt: 12S1P (Nominal Voltage 3.6V, Nominal Capacity 3.0Ah) 

Program Battery Chemistry: 18650HG2(3000mAh) ID 2125

Interface: EV2400

Problem: When I try to charge my batteries, everything works fine for some time (20 or 30 seconds) and after that, the communication between the EVM2400 and the Eval board is lost.

I am using an external power supply (48V 2A) as a charging source.

    Hi Jorge,

    Are you using an EVM or your own board? Can you tell me more about your hardware settings (external voltage divider values) and your data flash settings (is the VEN bit enabled to turn on the voltage divider FET)?

    A1- I am using the eval board BQ76940EVM  and the interface EV2400

    Q2- Can you tell me more about your hardware settings (external voltage divider values)

    A2-Are you talking VB header J15 in the BQ76940EBM board? if so, I set it up to M

    I would say that I have communication, but the issue is not solved.

    The real issue is that every time that i try to charge the battery, the communication is lost until I reset the Eval board and the EVM2400, and I still don't know why??

    Hi Jorge,

    This is not normal behavior and I don't know how to reproduce the behavior here. There are multiple variables involved - your EVM, your EVM2400 module, and your bqStudio running on your PC. Since you are able to get it working by performing a reset after changing the battery, it seems like you have a workaround.

    Hi Jorge,

    This is controlled by what you apply to the PACK+ and PACK- pins on the EVM. You can use a source meter or a power supply capable of sourcing and sinking current. Also, I am not sure what you have connected to the BATT+ and BATT- pins. If you have battery cells, there should be no issue, but if you are using a power supply to simulate cells, you want to make sure it can both source and sink current without a problem.

    Hi Matt,
    On the PACK +/- side, I am connecting a 12S1P pack of 18650HG2 batteries.
    On the BATT +/- side, I am using either, a variable power supply set to 42v(4A) for fast charging, or a CC 3A load for 1C discharging.
    Discharging works fine, but the communication gets interrupted a few seconds after I connect the power supply for charging.

    You have this backwards. The batteries should be connected on the BATT +/- side. The Power supply needs to be connected on the PACK +/- side as shown in the EVM User Guide.

    I just discovered that I skipped part of the instructions to reduce cell account.
    To be more specific, I skipped "Short AFE Inputs" step, described in document SLVU925B, Table 3, Page 28.
    Once I completed these jumpers, my UUT start to charge with no interuptions.
