TPS54560: Could TPS54560 chip be used for an constant current circuit?

Part Number: TPS54560

I want to use TPS54560 chip to setup an constant current circuit. The output current is about 100mA.

The application is to charge a three series Batteries(Ni-MH).  It's recommended by Battery manufacture.

I have an TPS54560 chip on my board  so I want to know if the TPS54560 could be used for the constant current circuit?

If yes, is there any suggestion  circuit?

Any feedback are appreciated.

  • Damon,

This is a 5A part so the only inherent current limit in the IC will be the current-limit feature when the circuit tries to over-current the output (IOUT > ~7.5A) so this will probably not help you to achieve your requirement. Some parts have a pin to select current limit but this IC does not.

You can use a current-sense resistor in series with the output and use some circuitry to inject into FB when you reach 100mA. This method will require additional circuitry and may require further stability analysis.

Or you can find another part with adjustable current limiting.
