Question: What is the purpose of the Clock Pin?
Answer: The Clock pin allows you to synchronize the switching frequency of your converter/controller to an external clock. This allows you to:
- Pick a set frequency to be easily filtered out to reduce interference in other circuitry.
- Avoid dangerous frequencies for EMI considerations - Try not to switch in the AM band in a car for example.
- Interleave two converters by setting the frequency equal to, but 180 degrees offset from, another converter.
- Synchronize converters to avoid beat frequencies between switchers. Beat frequencies can cause low-frequency issues.
