BQ25895: Suitability for using a solar cell input

Part Number: BQ25895
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01556

Hi,

Would this part be suitable for charging off of a solar cell input. I notice it has the maximum power point tracking, so thought it might work.

The specs i am working against are:

P_peak = 5.5W peak

V_mpp = 6.0V

I_mpp = 0.9A

V_oc = 7.5V

I_sc = 1A

Battery capacity = 4.4Ah

Thanks

  • Hey Martin,

    The charger can be used to implement MPPT with appropriate host control, but it does not do so inherently.

    I have linked our TI Reference Design here so you see our implementation using a host controller with the charger. www.ti.com/tool/tida-01556
    There you can review the design guide for the reference and download the source code for the design.

    Alternatively, you may use the Host to set a fixed input voltage regulation point, such as 6.0V, such that the charger regulates at this threshold.
