LM5145: How functional the tracking is?

I fully understand working mode of LM5145 using Tracking. On the other hand, why could anyone use this tracking function and if used, how this function works in applications.

Check out section 8.3.7.1 of the datasheet. This describes the operation but also implementation in ratiometric and coincident tracking.

In short, this allows the system to force the output to regulate to a point lower than the set point. This allows the circuit designer to track other voltages, start up as a function of another rising voltage...

Well, Sam, I understand that. On the other hand, what i want to know is what kind of application will tracking be used. Like Soft Start features for its suppression of output inrush and overshoot, what will tracking be used for?

Wenhao,

Tracking can be used for:

Inrush current suppression, as you said
To ramp the output voltage as a function of another ramping voltage
- Ex. Combination of power sequencing and soft start
External current limiting
- Ex. Sense input or output current. Reduce the voltage using the track feature when the current goes above a set value
And more. I don't have a cut-and-dry list. It's more of a feature you utilize when an application arises.
