hello,

i am using TI's LM5008 IC with my solar panels to convert high DC voltage into 5V. LM5008 is rated for 100v as per datasheet.

my solar panel is giving MAX. 105 V at the start up ( open circuit voltage) and when my load is connected (after 100ms) it drop down at 70-75 volts.

so my question is, can LM5008 survive at that moment when my solar panel system having 105V for 100ms. ?????

also same thing is happening with TI's SMD MOSFET CSD19532Q5B????

So please answer for both components.

Pranjal,

You run the risk of damaging your device every time you go above abs max. 100ms is a long time in EOS territory so I wouldn't recommend these conditions for reliable operation.

You can add a TVS diode on the input to prevent the voltage from going above 100V. That should not harm efficiency since it's only 100ms at startup and you should be able to find a TVS because this is not a lot of current.
