TINA/Spice/LM5160: Inverting DC/DC converter

Part Number: LM5160
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI,

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

Does LM5160 model supports an inverting buck-boost converter? I tried to simulate the circuit below, adapted from a regular buck design but the results did not make much sense. Is the circuit wrong or the model does not support it?

  • Elder,

Please share the TINA file and I'll take a look.

    Thanks,

  • Elder,

I've looked into this and I do not believe this model support inverting buck-boost. Some models on some parts specifically say they support inverting buck-boost but this part does not have one of these models.

Often times a buck model will have connections internal to the sim IC that refer to GND, not the GND pin of the IC. So that means if you set the GND pin as something other than GND, the references in the IC will still be referenced to external GND.

If you need to simulate this you can try posting to the modeling forum or you can get an EVM and modify to fit your specs.

  • Hello, Sam,

I suspected this part was one that did not have the inverting model, I just wanted to confirm.

    Thank you anyway.
