TPS51200: TPS51200 in Parallel

Part Number: TPS51200
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS53317A

E0073.pdfHello,

We have been using multiple TPS51200 for our DDR3 needs in a project for some time without problem. Recently we have changed our PCB manufacturer, using the same schematic and layout we have a problem with TPS51200s.

We have two DDR3 memories and we use 2 TPS51200s in parallel per memory. On some boards we noticed that upon power up, TPS51200s heated up consuming ~70mA per IC but were able to give output. At first we suspected faulty parts but later when we removed 1 of the parallel TPS51200 the other one operated without problem.

My question regards operation of two TPS51200s in parallel. I attached the schematic. Could you elaborate on the design?

Best Regards.
