Choosing matched complementary pairs of positive & negative regulators

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS7A33, TPS7A49, TPS7A39, TPS7A47, TPS7A30

Hi all. New member. Silly question, but does anyone know how to choose a complementary pair of voltage regulators? For instance the old 7812 and 7912 being positive and negative versions of the same regulator. There are hundreds now, with lower dropout voltage that look more attractive than these old designs, but I've found finding matching negative versions really difficult. Many thanks. Mike.

  • Hi Mike,
No problem, as you mentioned we have a large amount of voltage regulators within our portfolio. To narrow down the search can you please provide Vin, Vout as well as output current? These parameters would help get a general understanding of which LDOs to point to. Out of curiosity what will these be powering? I normally see +/- channel regulators powering ADC/DACs or Op Amps, in which case other parameters such as low noise are critical.

Some devices I can recommend now are: TPS7A49 + TPS7A30 or TPS7A47 + TPS7A33. If you're looking for a more integrated solution we recently released the TPS7A39 which is a dual channel LDO that can provide power to both +/- channels in one device.

    Regards,
    Wilson
