BQ24073: BQ24072, BQ24073 & BQ24093 Comparision

Part Number: BQ24073
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24093, BQ24072,

Hi,

I am comparing BQ24072, BQ24073 & BQ24093.

BQ24093 is having different architecture but not able to see much difference in BQ24072 & BQ24073. Only Vout(reg) is different in 24073 & 24072.

Is there any other critical point for these ICs to consider?

Please help.

  • Hello,
The BQ24093 is a non - power path device while the BQ2407X family of devices are power path devices. Power path gives you 2 major advantages over non power path devices.
One is that you get instant system turn on with Power Path devices. Since there is a FET between the OUT pin and the BAT pin, you can prioritize the OUT over the battery charging. With a non power path device, it could take a while to turn on the system with a deeply discharged battery.
The second major advantage is termination accuracy. Since the load current and battery charging current go through different paths, you can accurately terminate battery charging with a power path device.
The main difference between the BQ24072 and BQ24073 is the output voltage as you stated.
