In order to characterize the batttery cell I know there is the possibility to execute an automatic learning cycle but I didn't find any istruction on how to connect the load and the charger to the board.

Please refer to the learning cycle app note at www.ti.com/.../slua848, and the bq40z80 EVM User Guide at www.ti.com/.../sluubt4 to complete a successful learning cycle. As described in the EVM Guide, connect the Load/Charger to J1 as shown in Figure 1. When looking down on the board, PACK+ is the two terminal connections on the left, PACK- is the two terminal connection on the right, and PRES is the terminal connection in the middle.

Thank you very much but in order to automatically enable load and charger I need two logic outputs on the board that controls these ones.

The bq40z80EVM-020 RevA has the EV2400 circuitry on board, and the logic outputs brought to a header. However, the testing of this function has not been completed yet, and the capability will be provided at a later date.

In case you are going to use the bq80xrw library with your own software: This lib provides two functions that allow read and write of EV2x00 GPIO's using a mask. It's simple to loop through each GPIO mask value and check which GPIO pin responds on the board.

I have done this for EV2300 to fully automate the bq40z80 learning cycle. See github.com/.../bqev23k
