BQ40Z50-R2: Ground of BQ40z50-r2, EVM(SLUUAV7B) schematic

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50

Hi, dear TEXAS. At EVM(SLUUAV7B) schematic the ground pick up at point "B". But in this case Coulomb Counter (Battery Fuel Gauge) loose (does not take) energy of BQ40z50 and other microcontrollers what I use with that ground, becouse current for alimentation of microcontrollers doesn't go through the shunt.
Could I use ground in point "C" ? It will solve the  problem taking into account the energy of the internal electronics of the battery... Otherwise do you see other problems???

Best regards, Danil

  • Hi Danil,
The current consumed by the bq40z50 itself is very small (~300uAmps). The gauge really only needs to detect current above 1mA to maintain accuracy.
If you are using a micro, it is recommended that you connect it on the PACK+/PACK- side of the pack in order to include it's current consumption.
Connecting the gauge Vss to the PACK- side will distort the reference for the internal circuitry and ADC of the gauge and this is not recommended.
    Regards,
    Swami
