LM5050-1: Oring or Hotswap First

Dear Team,

My customer is wondering should put LM5050 Oring or LM5059 Hotswap first?

They use both LM5050 and LM5069, but not sure the order in the layout.

Hi Kevin,

In many cases, it does not matter. What are the power sources? Is the customer trying to prioritize one source over the other? or Do they intent both sources to power a common load. System examples in Section 10.3 of www.ti.com/.../tps24740.pdf provides more insights.

Can you share complete schematic to look at.

Thanks for the quick reply. So what is the case matters?

They didn't need to prioritize the source. They have 3 power source to power the same load.

Hi Kevin,

For source prioritization, Hot-swap is preferred at the front-end to make or break the path as ORing does not disconnect the path.

Here, 3 power sources are powering the same load. So, ORing for the three sources at first stage with a single hot-swap stage would be good choice.
