BQ76PL455A-Q1: OCD/SCD/OV/UV protection for BQ76PL455A-Q1

Part Number: BQ76PL455A-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76940, INA125

Hello,

Does the bq76PL455A-Q1 AFE have hardware protection for OCD/SCD/OV/UV like BQ76940 AFE?
If there is no hardware protection, means it can only be protected by software? Is it safe to protect the software with OCD/SCD?

If I use bq76PL455A-Q1 AFE, how do I know the value of the current and voltage?
Is it directly reading a register? From data sheet, it seems that bq76PL455A-Q1 doesn't have coulomb counter?

Thank you.

Aelx

  • Hi Alex,

bq76pl455 is a battery monitor with passive balancing, also built-in hardware protector for OV/UV, targeted for automotive new energy application.
It does not have current measurement, so does not support SOC. you have to expand opamp like INA125 to realize current measurement
and do SOC by MCU side.

  • Hi Andy,

    Thanks for the reply.

Could you provide some reference design or sample code about SOC and current measurement with BQ76PL455A-Q1?

And about OCD/SCD, so it can only be protected by software? SW protection may take much more time than HW,

any considerations if we have to protect OCD/SCD with SW?

    Thank you,

    Alex

  • Hi Alex,

SOC and current measurement are done by MCU side, not bq76pl455.

We don't have such reference design and code.

    Thanks!

    Andy
