We have TPS61021A which can work with 0.5V-2.5V input voltage range and is capable of outputting 3.8V/1A from 1.8V. Do you want the device to output 1A from the input voltage down to 0.5V?. If the answer is yes, you need a much higher power boost converter like TPS61088. We have such a reference design. Please see TI reference design http://www.ti.com/tool/PMP9772.

Thanks for choose the TI solution. Here're my review result:

1. Please choose a >=10A current rating inductor. because at Vin=0.7V, Vo=3.8V, Io=1.3A condition, the average inductor current will be around 9A.  And the input current will higher than  10A@ Vin=0.5V, Vo=3.8V/1A condition;

2. what is your lowest input voltage?  if Vinmin=0.5V, then you have to choose TPS61200 instead of TLV61220.  if Vinmin>=0.7V, then TLV61220  will be a better solution.
