BQ25120A: Questions about PMID & VINLS

Part Number: BQ25120A

Hi,

I am trying to use BQ25120a, but came to confusion regarding PMID and VINLS pins. From the datasheet, VINLS pin is connected with SYS and I assume this is the output from internal buck converter. But, I also found other schematics in evaluation board that connects PMID with VINLS. So, here is my question.

 1) If PMID left unconnected any pins, I found the datasheet says the output at PMID node is for unregulated load. What does this exactly means or how much voltage/current it draws?

 2) What is the difference between two configuration 1) VINLYS connected to SYS and 2) VINLYS connected to PMID, SYS not connected to any of two.

I look forward hearing the answer.

Thanks,

Ha

  • Ha,

PMID is either between VBAT or VIN. You can connect other system peripherals and regulators to PMID that can withstand voltages from 3-5.5V.

VINLS is only an input to the LS/LDO. Depending on what voltage you need at the LS/LDO output, you can connect the VINLS to either PMID or VSYS.

Select the choice for high efficiency for the LS/LDO. The output of the LS/LDO can never be greater than the VINLS pin.
