what parameters need to consider while selecting battery charger IC?

  • Hello Ketan:

When selecting a charger, here are the basic things you need to consider to begin narrowing down solutions:

    • System's power and operation requirements (including system load profile). This will dictate the type of battery you will need to support the system during run time, as well as things like operating temperature that will influence the cell chemistry used.
    • Cell chemistry used. This will dictate your battery regulation voltage and charging profile needed.
    • Charge current specified by the cell manufacturer.
    • Battery pack configuration (single cell or multi cell).
    • Input power. Will it be powered from USB or an adapter?
    • Host-controlled or standalone solution. This will depend on your application.

Once you have these, you can begin selecting specific features you may need like power-path, OTG, leakage current, integrated ADC, package requirements, etc.

    Hope this helps.
