BQ76940: BQ76940

Part Number: BQ76940
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350

We use the EVM board of TI's BQ76940 to connect the EV2300 to the onboard upper computer. Why can only see the voltage of the first five knots, but not the following?

We checked the output voltage, REGOUT = 2.5, cap1 is 3.3, cap2-vc5x is 3.3, cap3 to VC10X is 0, TS1 to VSS =0, TS2- to vc5x is 0, TS3 to VC10X is 0.

  • Hi Wang,
The status in the GUI picture shows DEV_XD or the DEVICE_XREADY status. There is a communication fault in the part and the upper voltages are not known. The problem is " cap3 to VC10X is 0", the upper group is not on. You have checked TS3 which looks normal, so the problem would likely be missing power for the top group, shorted CAP3, or a damaged IC. Check the voltage from VC10X to BAT and cells 10 to 15. Also check that the EVM is not sitting on some conductive material or something conductive is touching or has contaminated the board.
The GUI display is odd in that the ADC_EN is off but the value is red indicating it would not update. A number of register values show reserved bits set. Communication may not be reliable or something may be interferring with the communication. If using this tool, be sure the shunts are removed to disconnect the bq78350 gauge on the EVM. Reserved bits must not be set for proper operation.
