BQ76940: BQ7694001DBT : SOC (State of charge calibration) Calibration on production lines

Part Number: BQ76940
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350, , BQ78350-R1

Hello,

We are about to produce a battery managed by a BQ7694001DBT circuit.

We know that the BQ needs an ageing cycle (Full Charge / Full discharge) to calibrate its SOC (State of charge).

it is not possible to perform this cycle for each produced battery during the production because it is too long, and costly.

Is it possible to perform this cycle on a "golden" battery and to retrieve the calibration parameters (golden image) from the BQ on this battry, then to flash this golden image all produced batteries ?

Thanks for your answer,

David Duminy

  • Hi David,
The bq76940 is a monitor, it might be used with bq78350-R1 gauge which will generate a SOC. The setup or golden image can be copied to all batteries in a production lot. However the bq78350 is a CEDV gauge. At reset it will estimate SOC from the voltage, but will not know SOC for certain until it has a full cycle.
  • Hi,

Indeed, you're right, we are using BQ76940 and BQ78350 as gauge.

Anyway, your answer is clear : there is no way to calibrate the SOC calculation at the end of line except doing one full discharge and charge cycle.

    Best regards,

    David
