TPS92513: 2.5 KHz PWM input

Guru 16770 points
Part Number: TPS92513

Hi

In PWM dimming explanation, datasheet offers 100Hz - 1KHz PWM is recommended as dimming frequency range.

According to Figure 14 from datasheet, waveform of 40usec pulse width will make output current dull.

However, output current seems to become 0 after 120usec passed.

In other words, if 8KHz PWM input with 33% duty is assumed, we will get same waveform of Figure 14.

Is my understanding correct?

Our customer wants to use 2.5KHz PWM.

So I want to confirm if TPS92513 can support 2.5KHz PWM input with how much duty cycle is.

BestRegards

  • Hello,

There are a lot of factors involved with how the current behaves when PWM dimming.  The input voltage, output voltage, inductor value are a large part of it.  The LED load can be part of it as well.

8 KHz PWM with 33% duty may look the same or it may not, that depends on the input and output voltage, inductance and other factors.

2.5 KHz is fine but they have to see if it works as they desire.  The design has to be made so it works well at that frequency.

    Regards,
