BQ76PL455A-Q1: PROPAGATION DELAY DUE TO DAISY CHAIN

Part Number: BQ76PL455A-Q1

Hello,

What is the total time that is required for the MCU to receive the topmost cell data when 256 cells are connected in daisy chain configuration?

What is propagation delay in transfer of information due to daisy chain connection?

Refer attached image for better understanding.

  • Hi Sushma,

Please see section 6.17, the "Digital Input/Output: Daisy Chain Vertical Bus" section of the datasheet. This section provides internal propagation delay and bit time for differential communications.

    Vince
  • Hi Vince,

So the total time in which the controller receives the message is [2.4 ms( i.e. total time for voltage conversion) +((<60 ns)+250 ns)*total number of BQ76PL455A-Q1 IC in daisy chain]. Is this right??

    i.e totally(for 16 cells) it adds a delay of (60ns +250 ns)  or each board adds a delay of (60ns +250 ns) ??

    Thank you,
    Sushma

  • Hi Sushma,

Each board adds a delay of 60ns+250ns, but keep in mind these are nominal values, and actual values can be higher or lower depending on a number of factors. My recommendation is to test with your current setup from one device to another, then extrapolate to the full stack. This will give you a close representation of nominal values for your specific design.

    Vince
