BQ27426: Function for automatically cell profile updating by changing cell

Part Number: BQ27426
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27500, BQ27520-G4

HI team

Customer system frequently changes the battery cell form new cell to old, or old to new cell. New cell and old one is different QMax and Ra etc.

But they hope to get accurate gauging result as possible as soon.

In this case, could bq27426 select best cell profile automatically to calculate right gauging ?

If not, does another GG (bq27500?)have such function  ?

best regards K.Kanao

  • Hi Kanao-san,
bq27426 does not have the ability to store two Qmax and Ra values for different packs.
The pack arbitration function you refer to was last offered on bq27520-G2. The feature means that during a discharge the gauge will compare the resistance measured to Pack 0, Pack 1, or Default Ra. Then it will switch to use the closest matched profile.
This feature is not available on any bq274xx gauges and is not available on any newer gauges than bq27520-G2.
Of course, this is one drawback of a system-side gauge. A pack-side gauge will allow instant SOC accuracy when the battery is inserted.
  • Hi

Thank you for reply.  This is system side.

    bq275200-G2 is NRND.

Does the latest bq27520-G4  have not pack arbitration function ?

    best regards K.Kanao

  • We usually move older versions of FW to NRND status so that customers can be directed to the most recent version, but it is okay to use prior versions.  The bq27520-G2 can be ordered directly or you can order bq27520-G4 (if the lead time is shorter) and reprogram with -G2 FW.

The pack arbitration feature was removed to save code space and replaced with other features.  The pack arbitration feature was not used by many customers.
