BQ4050: Transferring Learned Values with Golden Image

Hi Team,

My customer is trying to generate their BQ4050 golden image, but would like to understand how to do it so that the learning cycle transfers and the correct Max Error is programmed. They currently cycle the golden pack and Max Error shows 2%, but it goes up to 100% when they read the srec since it resets the device. Is it possible to create a golden image with the learned parameters so that they don't have to cycle every pack? My understanding is that the BQ4050 supports this.

This is not possible. The bq4050 is a CEDV gauge. You can certainly create a golden file with all the learned data but fundamentally a POR will reset the max error counter to 100%. You will always learn FCC when you hit EDV2 after performing the CEDV parameter generation and after that you run a rel-chg-rel-dis-rel cycle.

Just to confirm, does this mean a production cycle is needed for every device? I.e. are there any issues with running at Max Error = 100% until a cycle happens in the field? I'm just trying to understand Tom's comments here about a new learning cycle not being needed: e2e.ti.com/.../1993066.

Yes, you don't need to cycle again in production. That's what he meant by saying pre-cycle the gauge. Once you run a CEDV parameter generation and a learning cycle, that file serves as your golden file.

All you need is for FCC to update in the field. For this in production run the cycle to get the CEDV parameters and then run a chg dsg cycle to get FCC learned. That will be your golden file.
