TPS2546EVM-064: Small error in design or deliberate?

Part Number: TPS2546EVM-064
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2546

Dear TI,

I have an EVM for the TPS2546. I came across what I think is an error in the EVM design.

It is about jumper JP1 that needs to be moved in between VIN and VBUS. Now you can apply auxiliary power to the board that is in parallel with the voltage supplied by the HOST.

The quick fix is to remove the JP1 jumper and feed the aux power through TP3.

Regards,

Roland

  • Roland,

Thanks for pointing out the point of confusion.

You are correct to remove JP1 if you are using the expenal power connector and if the aux power connector was required for the EVM to operate, it would be an error, but JP1 and JP2 have multiple uses.

JP1 also allows for the EVM to be powered from the USB connector rather than the power connector.

The JP1 and JP2 connections also allow you to add a current measurement loop on the output and input side of the power switch.

    Regards,
    Chuck
  • No problem with the intent of measuring current on both sides, but IMHO the Ext Power connection should not be wired to the USB power directly. But nevertheless the board was a real timesaver as I required split power and data for some measurements!
