how to caculate the loss of inductance in the Boost PFC Circuit.

  • Hi Chi Cao,
I am not quite sure what you mean by 'loss of inductance'. Do you mean the power dissipated in the inductor?
Is the Boost PFC circuit operating in CCM or transition mode?
    Thanks

  • Yeah,It is the power dissipate in the inductor.I just wanted to know how to caculate it.
    Thanks
  • Hi Chi Cao,
Please check out Section 8.2.2.2.1 in the datasheet linked below. This gives a method to compute the RMS current flowing in the Boost inductor. Once this is obtained the power dissipated in the winding can be obtained provided the winding resistance is known. The method presented is for a TM PFC circuit.
A similar method may be used to estimate the core loss. In other words calculate the flux swing across a switching cycle at angle theta in the Line half-cycle. From this estimate the core loss for that switching cycle using information supplied in the core datasheet. Integrate the result across the Line half-cycle and take the average.
The result is approximate due to effects like gap loss and proximity loss not included in the estimate.
    Thanks
