BQ20Z70: Generating the new Golden file for the new battery cell with the existing old cell

Part Number: BQ20Z70

Hello,

I could set up the EV2300 kit and SW for BQ20Z70 successfully with the TI's great support.

I’m now learning the bq Ev. Software for bq20z70 with EV2300 to generate the golden file.

The existing battery cell of the smart battery pack is going to be obsolete and replaced with the new cell so that the new golden file is required.

Both cells have the very similar electrical characteristics but different Chemistry ID.

There is no plan to change any part of the smart battery PCB, which has the bq20z70.

I don’t have any sample of the new battery pack with the new battery cell on my hand yet.

Therefore, I need to generate the temporary golden file without the new cell since the supplier is going to build some samples of the battery pack with the new cell and ship them out in the mid of October.

Can you please provide any suggestion for generating the temporary golden file with the existing battery pack?

Thanks,
Sherard Yu

  • Sherard,

You cannot generate a new golden file for the new cell without actually using the cell. Even if you were to program the chem ID, the golden image has resistance and capacity information that is obtained by actually cycling the cell prior to production release. This is not something that can be managed with defaults.

In short, your supplier will have to give you at least one pack so that you can cycle it and get a learning cycle completed for use in production.
  • Batt,

The supplier is going to send me the 5 samples of battery pack for generating the production golden file.
I'm talking about those 5 samples.
If I understand you correctly, it would better not writing anything to the new battery pack with the new cell, right?
Then how can the supplier test the samples?

    Best Regards,
    Sherard
  • If he's going to do the learning cycle for you, then he can update chem ID, calibrate, set gauging parameters, safety etc. Otherwise you will have to do it on the samples.

What I meant was, don't copy the Ra tables or chem data from the older gauge to the new gauge and use it for production.
  • Thanks for your response, Batt.
