TPS65070 Battery charger state diagram

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65070

Hi,

I'm reading about the battery charger section in TPS65070 datasheet. I'm trying to figure out how to configure the chip to be able to charge my battery. I'm almost finished with every registers to set but I want to be sure that the chip will not stuck in a dead loop waiting for me to clear a flag or something.

For that reason I'm trying to understand the battery charger state diagram at page 29 of the datasheet. I can see a lot of abbreviation that prevent me to understand it. (ex: EN_REF_CHG, EN_CHG, EN_ISHRT, EN_ISETDET_D, etc, etc) I searched into the datasheet and there is no explication about it.

Where I can find the meaning of those abbreviations.

Regards,

Nicolas

  • The charger is enabled by default.

It will start a new charge cycle once AC or USB supply is conneced and the battery voltage is within a valid charging range.

You do not need to enable the charger before it starts a new charge cycle (enabled by default). Once the battery voltage drops below the re-charge threshold the charger will automatically start a re-charging the battery.

I agree that the state diagram in the TPS65070 datasheet is not very clear. It does contain device internal signal names and needs to be updated removing these signals.

Basically you just need to set the correct charge voltage in register 0x06h.

You can also change the charger sefety timers to meet your requirements in your application. (see register 0x05h).

Let me know if you have any further questions.
