BQ24040: Terminal /CHG state vs. TS (temperature)

Part Number: BQ24040
Hi, Ti friends,
Please refer to the attached file of the experiment report and please help to confirm the questions as below, thank you.
•The experiment results tell us,

•1. The /CHG state is very different when TS voltage is changing especially in cold fault and hot fault on different battery voltage (example: >= 4.06V or < 4.06V).
The software can’t judge the status. Could you please help to confirm it ?
•2. When the battery voltage is >= 4.06V condition,
it seems the /CHG is always on the high state when the temperature increased from normal temp. to hot temp. or started from hot temp. Is it correct ?
•3. When the battery voltage is < 4.06V condition,
it seems the /CHG is always on the Low state once the temperature go into normal temp. Is it correct ?
•4. Refer to the datasheet, page 18, mention about Charging state, TEMP FAULT, “ON for 1st Charging”, could you please explain more about that?
Thank you.
KY.
  • Thanks for posting the test report I will review and get back to you.
Regarding question 4 -- The CHG LED is ON (low) during the first charge. During that charge if a temp fault occurs the LED does not turn off, charge stops, current to battery stops and timers stop. When temp fault clears charge resumes.
The CHG LED will go out when charge termination is complete.
NOTE that CHG LED will not turn back on for a recharge condition, battery voltage drops 100mV. Recharge will start, current will go to battery but CHG LED will remain off.
  • Hi, Bill,

Thanks for your explanation for question 4, It correspond our understanding, but we think there are something wrong compared with our test report.

Wait for your check, thank you.

    Regards,

    KY.

  • Hi KY
I will work with you off line on this one, will contact you shortly.
